The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) plays a crucial role in promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within educational institutions by encouraging students and faculty to think creatively and develop practical solutions to real-world problems. Through activities such as workshops, hackathons, boot camps, and expert sessions, IIC helps in building essential skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. It also provides a platform for transforming ideas into prototypes and start-ups by offering mentorship, industry exposure, and opportunities for collaboration. Furthermore, IIC strengthens the connection between academia and industry, facilitating research, innovation, and the development of a vibrant startup ecosystem within campuses. The structured framework of IIC, with defined activities, measurable outcomes, and performance indicators, also contributes significantly to improving institutional performance and innovation rankings .

In addition, the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), Government of India, has taken several impactful initiatives to systematically foster innovation across the country. Established in 2018, MIC aims to develop a robust innovation ecosystem in Higher Education Institutions by implementing programs such as the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Smart India Hackathon, and the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). It also introduced the National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP) to guide institutions in promoting entrepreneurship and startup culture. Initiatives like the Innovation Ambassadors Program train faculty to mentor students effectively, while the YUKTI Innovation Repository supports the documentation and scaling of innovative ideas and prototypes. Additionally, MIC promotes specialized programs such as MBA/PGDM in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Venture Development (IEV) and actively collaborates with industries, incubators, and investors to provide mentorship, funding opportunities, and real-world exposure. Overall, these initiatives collectively transform educational institutions into innovation-driven ecosystems, empowering students to become innovators and job creators.
